Phoenix Police Department detectives arrested a man for the brutal murder of his girlfriend early Friday morning near downtown.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, at around 3:40 a.m., on November 7, 2025, patrol officers responded to a domestic violence call at a residence in the area of 2000 West Hadley Street. Details from the 9-1-1 call stated the man calling into police wanted to report he had killed his girlfriend. When officers got to the scene, they contacted 47-year-old Jeffrey Rael and took him into custody without incident.

While checking the residence, officers located 31-year-old Paxton Wallace suffering from multiple injuries consistent with a sharp bladed instrument. Phoenix Fire responded to the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

Rael was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and later released and booked Rael into Maricopa County Jail for First Degree Murder.
