Arizona leaders at the state and national level are joining President Donald Trump in calling Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly and five other lawmakers “traitors.”

Kelly joined fellow progressive veterans and former intelligence officers in Congress in a video essentially urging active duty personnel to refuse orders they deem illegal.

Air Force veteran and Arizona State legislator Rep. Nick Kupper tweeted, “While spineless vets like @SenMarkKelly play politics by telling current service members to disobey @realDonaldTrump & @SecWar , vets like me are still fighting for those harmed by actual unlawful orders. Our documentary Duty to Disobey with @ChildrensHD comes out June 2026.”

Army veteran and US Congressman Abe Hamadeh’s official congressional account also called the lawmaker out:

“When he joined the Army, Congressman Hamadeh swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States AND to obey the orders of the President of the United States.

So too did all of the Democrats who served and participated in this disgusting, seditious video. Maybe they forgot that oath…

There’s a reason enlistment is soaring under @POTUS and @SecWar : people want to serve their President and defend this country.”

On the other hand, Democrats condemned Trump’s call for prosecution of anyone found guilty of treason.

“I’ve had a missile blow up next to my airplane, been shot at dozens of times by anti-aircraft fire, and launched into orbit — all for my country. I never thought I’d see a President call for my execution. Trump doesn’t understand the Constitution, and we’re all less safe for it,” said Kelly, who is rumored to be considering a presidential run, on social media.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt made it clear Trump does not want them executed, but said Kelly and his cohorts should “be held accountable.”

While Kelly claims he wasn’t advising service members to engage in traitorous activity, many of his fellow veterans saw incitement.

“I served with men who risked everything to uphold the chain of command. Mark Kelly just told America’s troops that orders don’t matter if you don’t like the President. That’s not integrity — that’s sabotage. I’m an infantry combat veteran. I’ve been in the kind of fights where good men with families didn’t make it home,” said popular conservative influencer, Sergio Arellano. “They followed the chain of command because that’s what holds a military together. For Mark Kelly to tell troops that orders are optional isn’t courage — it’s a dangerous betrayal of every warrior who paid the ultimate price.”

Leavitt pointed out that despite Kelly and others’ insinuation that Trump issues illegal orders, the President has never done so, nor have the Democrats given an example of one.
