Aztec’s Mendoza and Hunt Earn ACCAC Honors

Pima Community College men’s basketball player Brock Mendoza (Layton HS, UT) showcased an inside presence and the ACCAC conference took notice for the week of Dec. 28-Jan. 4.

Mendoza, a sophomore center, was named ACCAC Division II Player of the Week.

The Aztecs went 4-0 in wins over Chemeketa Community College (OR), Community Christian College, Arizona Sol and Chandler-Gilbert Community College. Mendoza averaged 17.0 points, 15.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game. He posted double-doubles in all four contests and shot 74.4 percent (29-for-39) from the field.

He is averaging 15.2 points, 10.6 rebounds and 2.3 blocks as he has played in all 16 games: making 12 starts. He is shooting 68.5 percent from the field.

*Men’s Basketball sophomore forward Mason Hunt (Bradshaw Mountain HS) earned his second nod as ACCAC Division II Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 14-21. He earned his first selection for the week of Nov. 16-22.

He scored 29 points after going 10 for 19 (52.6 percent) from the field with seven rebounds, one assist and two steals in Pima’s 84-80 win at Scottsdale Community College on Dec. 17.

Hunt has played and started in 13 games this season as he leads the ACCAC conference averaging 21.2 points per game. He is shooting 54.2 percent from the field, 41.6 percent from three-point range and 72.5 percent from the free throw line. He is also averaging 4.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.2 steals.

The Aztecs beat Mesa Community College 95-65 on Wednesday and will be back in action on Saturday when they host Community Christian College at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium. Game time is set for 12:00 p.m.
