The Arizona Department of Public Safety is investigating a City of Phoenix officer involved shooting.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, on January 26, 2026, at around 6:19 p.m., officers responded to the area of 73rd Avenue and Cordes Road regarding a shooting. Details on the call indicated that a man was shooting at a house, and that a family member was hit.
When the first officer arrived, a community member reported that someone was shooting people and to go in. The officer ran toward the house and fired one round from his duty rifle through the open door. This was the moment the officer-involved shooting occurred.
Officers entered the house and found two men with gunshot wounds. One man was taken to the hospital with a non-life-threatening injuries, while the other was pronounced deceased at the scene. A third man was detained and transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, unrelated to gunfire.
Preliminary information suggests that an adult man drove to the home and began shooting at it. The man went to the backyard and was able to enter the home when an additional altercation occurred. During that struggle, the officer-involved shooting took place.
