A Coconino County Grand Jury has indicted Terrell Storey on two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of two Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers while assisting local police during a shooting.

The indictment also alleges numerous additional victims, including 25 law enforcement officers who responded to the scene, as well as residents of the homes in the surrounding area.

Officials allege that Storey was armed with a long rifle, and opened fire on responding officers as well as the victim. He was allegedly firing and moving across rooftops in the area.

“Our hearts remain with the families of Hunter Bennett and Robert Skankey, and with all the families impacted by this incident,” said County Attorney Ammon Barker. “We are committed to pursuing this case with the diligence and care it requires.”

Earlier this week, the County Attorney’s Office filed a criminal complaint containing 50 counts. The case was later presented to a Grand Jury, which returned the 60-count indictment.

  1. I’ve read at least 5 other stories related to this. Each one identified the suspect, some identify the fallen LEOs. All state the suspect shot at LEOs on the ground and a few also state he shot at the victim, singular (it started as a domestic dispute call). None have stated that he shot at the helicopter nor that the helicopter went down due to an injured pilot or mechanical failure. I’m all for holding ppl accountable for their actions and for killers paying the ultimate price of justice, but I do not believe in holding people accountable for the actions of others. The details always matter, but more so when the charge is murder.

  2. .. “armed with a long rifle” .. didn’t you mean to use the popular term ” long gun” in other words, a rifle, instead?? Normally, “long rifle” refers to the very common .22 Long Rifle cartridge, but no matter, it was a terribly tragic occurrence and I’m glad that Storey is being held accountable.

  3. If only the Coconino County Attorney’s Office had the intestinal fortitude to seek the death penalty….
