88-Year-Old Sexual Assault Suspect Posing as Healer Extradited from Nigeria to Face Charges in Arizona

An 88-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting women who came to him for treatment has been extradited back to Arizona.

On April 23, 2026, 88-year-old Alejandro Castellanos Tovar was extradited to Arizona and booked into the Maricopa County Jail on a warrant related to sexual assault investigations dating back to 2014.

Between January 2014 and May 2019, several women reported that Tovar, a self-employed “healer” inappropriately touched or sexually assaulted them while they visited his home for treatment. After learning he was under investigation, Tovar fled the country to Nigeria, where he reportedly had family.

In late 2019, investigators submitted criminal charges against him, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. From 2019 through 2020, the Adult Sex Crimes Unit worked alongside the U.S. Marshals service to locate and coordinate his return to the United States.

In 2025, the U.S. Marshal’s Service, and the U.S. Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service (DSS) partnered with INTERPOL in Nigeria, to arrange Tovar’s arrest and removal from the country. On December 22, 2025, Phoenix detectives were notified that Tovar had been taken into custody and was en route to the United States. Upon his arrival, he was booked into the Louden County Adult Detention center, pending further proceedings.

On April 23, 2026, Tovar was formally extradited back to Arizona and booked into the Maricopa County Jail on the outstanding charges.
