The Phoenix Police Department has identified the dead knife wielding suspect killed on Sunday.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, on Sunday, June 26th, 2026, at around 11:00 p.m.,officers responded to a domestic violence call at a single-family residence located in the area of 3500 West Greenway Road. The initial information provided indicated that family members at the house were fighting, and one was armed with a knife.
Upon arrival, officers contacted an involved adult female in front of the residence. While speaking with her, the suspect, 22-year-old Xavier Alexander Aguirre appeared at the front of the house holding a knife and began chasing a second adult male, who was standing in the driveway. Officers gave verbal commands to Aguirre, but he did not comply. Aguirre continued chasing the other individual while armed with the knife, resulting in the officer involved shooting.
Aguirre while holding the knife was struck by gunfire. Officers approached and provided medical aid. He was transported by Phoenix Fire personnel to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
The knife was recovered at the scene.
No officers or other community members were injured.
