A teen, Jamison Lamont Saunders, was killed in Phoenix on Monday in a collision with a semi-truck.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, at approximately 2:00 a.m., officers responded to a collision at 500 North 51st Avenue involving a semi‑truck and a passenger vehicle.
Officers and fire personnel arrived and located the driver, 18-year-old Saunders with injuries; he was pronounced deceased on scene.
The driver of the semi‑truck was not injured.
Detectives believe that the passenger vehicle failed to control his speed and crashed into the rear of the semi‑truck.
The driver of the semi-truck was evaluated, and he showed no signs of impairment.
My deepest condolences to the Saunders family for their irreparable loss and unfathomable heartbreak. No parent should have to bury a child. No parent should have to suffer such boundless rage, profound longing, and indescribable grief for the rest of their seemingly endless days. We work so hard to teach our children all the skills and to give them all the tools to survive and succeed in life, and in a careless moment of innocent glee and youthful exuberance they unintentionally end it all and sentence us to a overlong lifetime of interminable sorrow.
