TFD Responds To Apartment Fire, 4 Units Damaged, Families Displaced

Tucson Fire responded to an apartment fire in the 3900 block of North Stone, which damaged four units and displaced multiple residents. One TPD officer suffered minor smoke inhalation after assisting in evacuation efforts prior to TFD arriving on scene.

Flames could be seen by the closest TFD Engine as soon as they left the station and Tucson Police also had officers in the complex.

Two units on the second story of the complex were fully involved in flames as the first Engine arrived on scene. They called for a second alarm and pulled multiple hose lines to not only extinguish the units on fire but to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent units as well.

Several firefighters assisted in evacuating apartments close by and efforts were made to ensure all occupants were out of the effected units.

The Ladder Crew arrived on scene and controlled the utilities to the building. They then went to the roof of the building and cut a hole over one of the units to assist in cooling the interior and increasing the visibility for crews inside. All units were deemed all clear as residents has safely evacuated.

The fire was called under control 17 minutes after crews first arrived on scene. The fire damage was contained to the two second story units though the two bottom floor units did sustain electrical and water damage.

More than 40 firefighters and 16 units were dispatched to the scene due to the potential damage but many were able to return to service just as they arrived on scene due to controlling the fire so quickly.

One TPD officer was transported to the hospital for precautionary reasons due to the smoke inhalation but was expected to make a full recovery. There were no injuries to firefighters.
