Flagstaff – Flagstaff Police personnel are investigating the death of Allen Shaffer, who was struck and killed by a train on Sunday.
According to Flagstaff Police, on July 19, 2020 at approximately 2:53 p.m., officers responded to the AmTrak Train Station regarding a pedestrian being struck by a passing train.
Witnesses told officers that Mr. Shaffer, age 24, walked southbound across the railroad tracks and then returned north to the middle of the tracks while waiving at an oncoming westbound train. Witnesses reported Mr. Shaffer attempted to run southbound away from the oncoming train and was struck as he was unable to completely move from the oncoming train’s path.
Investigators are continuing to review surveillance camera recordings in the area to help determine the circumstances of the collision, according to the Flagstaff Police Department.
