Superintendent Of Public Instruction Hoffman Caught In “Masks For Thee And Not For Me” Moment

PHOENIX, AZ – Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction Kathy Hoffman was caught this weekend in a “masks for thee and not for me” moment while enjoying a mask-free baby shower. A photo of the staunch mask mandate advocate has gone viral on social media sites, circulated by mostly angry parents.

Just last week, Hoffman blasted Governor Doug Ducey for his decision to ban mask mandates in K-12 schools.

“Instead of taking the necessary steps to keep our schools safe and open this academic year, our governor decided to tie the hands of our school leaders and ignore the guidance of public health experts,” wrote Hoffman referring to the CDC’s mask guidance.

Although there is no evidence that masks prevent the spread of COVID-19, Hoffman called on Ducey in a tweet to “let our schools work with their communities to implement common-sense @CDCgov mitigation strategies, like universal masking.”

Parents, who are speaking out against school boards choosing to break the law and mandate masks, were among those on social media who compared Hoffman to the likes of California Governor Gavin Newsome and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, both of whom have been caught violating the very COVID-19 restrictions they imposed or defended.

Not everyone in education leadership support the CDC’s mask guidance. Last week, before a vote by the Marana School Board to join districts across the state to implement mask mandates on campuses, Board member Tom Carlson raised issues ranging from the equity of mask mandates to the efficacy of surgical masks.

The Marana mandate passed in a 3-2 vote.
