Woman Killed In Second Collision She Caused In Phoenix

Phoenix Police investigating a fatal collision that occurred last night that left a woman dead and two others in the hospital.

Officers responded to a serious vehicle collision near 38th Street and Shea Boulevard around 8:45 pm. When officers arrived, they found a gray Honda and a gray Ford involved in a collision. The fire department responded and provided medical aid to a man and a woman inside the Ford. Officers located a woman, later identified as 50-year-old Sonya Martinez, unresponsive while inside the Honda. Fire personnel later pronounced Martinez deceased on scene.

Officers learned there was another collision that occurred at 40th Street and Shea Boulevard just moments before. Witnesses told officers the gray Honda was involved in the collision but drove off. There were no serious injuries at the initial collision on 40th Street.

Detectives believe the gray Honda was involved in a hit and run collision at 40th Street and Shea Boulevard then drove off westbound on Shea Boulevard. The Honda went onto oncoming traffic and collided with the gray Ford which was eastbound on Shea Boulevard.
