Phoenix Homicide Suspect Dead After Being Found By Officers

Phoenix Police detectives are investigating a midday shooting that left a man dead and ended with the suspect being involved in an officer involved shooting.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, on May 16, 2024, around 2:15 p.m., officers responded to a residence near 33rd Drive north or Northern Avenue. When officers arrived, they found 29-year-old Brandon Russell, with at least one gunshot wound. Russell was transported to a nearby hospital, but he did not survive his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Detectives learned that the suspect, 23-year-old Devin Gerrod Montgomery and Russell were involved in an argument that resulted in Montgomery shooting Russell. Montgomery left the area before police arrival. He was located by Phoenix Police and involved in an officer involved shooting.
