The man who killed three Grand Canyon University (GCU) students, Hunter Balberdi, Abriauna Hoffman, and Magdalyn Ogden, has been sentenced to decades in prison.
Vincent Ian Acosta, 27, pleaded guilty to three counts of second-degree murder.
Acosta was sentenced to 22 years in prison after pleading guilty, the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office announced on Friday.
In 2022, Acosta was driving southbound in the northbound lanes of Interstate 17 near New River when he crashed into a Honda Accord carrying three GCU freshmen. Two victims died at the scene; the third victim was taken to a hospital and later died. Acosta’s blood alcohol content was over the legal limit.
