Single Vehicle Collision Leaves One Dead

Phoenix Police Department detectives are investigating a collision that left a man dead.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, on January 20, 2025, just before 10:00 a.m., officers responded to a vehicle collision on an off-ramp of the 202 freeway at Desert Foothills Parkway. When officers arrived, they found a vehicle on its roof and fire personnel working on an occupant.

Officers were informed by fire fighters there were two males inside the vehicle at the time of the collision; the driver, 18-year-old Carlos Alvarez, and another adult male passenger. Fire provided medical aid to Alvarez, but he died from his injuries on scene. The passenger was assessed and did not require transport to the hospital.

Detectives believe the vehicle was exiting the eastbound 202 freeway at Desert Foothills Parkway. The off-ramp curves to the north however, the vehicle did not make the turn and collided with the wall, resulting in the vehicle flipping over.

The investigation remains active.
