Phoenix Jaywalker Killed On Buckeye Road

A jaywalker was hit and killed by a car on Tuesday as he attempted to cross mid-block on Buckeye Road just west of 35th Avenue.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, just after midnight on July 8, 2025, officers were called to a collision involving a pedestrian and a passenger car near 36th Avenue and Buckeye Road. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the victim identified as 50-year-old Cesar Martinez-Delgadillo suffering from critical injuries. Phoenix Fire responded and attempted lifesaving care, however, Martinez-Delgadillo was not able to overcome his injuries and died on scene.

Detectives learned Martinez-Delgadillo was attempting to walk across Buckeye Road just west of 35th Avenue outside of any marked crosswalks when he was hit. The driver, an adult male, stayed on scene and showed no signs of intoxication.

  1. On another note, most pedestrians I’ve encountered do not know the red hand light at the crosswalk means do not cross! Maybe a circle with a diagonal line through it would get through to people?!
