
Phoenix Police detectives are investigating a collision that left a pedestrian dead.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, on September 25, 2025, around 8:00 p.m., officers responded to the area of 91st Avenue and Highland Avenue regarding collision involving a pedestrian. When officers arrived, they located the adult male pedestrian, later identified as 40-year-old Michael Cathcart, with serious injuries.
Cathcart was transported to a nearby hospital where he did not survive his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
Detectives believe that Cathcart was crossing 91st Avenue, midblock, when he was struck by the vehicle involved. The vehicle originally left the scene; however, when the driver heard about the severity of the collision, they contacted the Phoenix Police Department and detectives interviewed them. After being interviewed the driver was released pending additional investigation.
Impairment is not believed to be a factor in this collision.
Charging decisions related to this investigation will be made once the accident reconstruction process is complete.
