
Phoenix Police Department detectives are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred at 3202 West Bell Road.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, on September 28, 2025, around 9:45 a.m., officers responded to a call at 3202 West Bell Road, in response to an adult man, later identified as David Steinbach, who pointed a gun at himself, and at some point, fired a gun inside his apartment.
When officers arrived, they evacuated nearby apartments and surrounded the 52-year-old Steinbach’s apartment. They began to negotiate with Steinbach and contacted the Special Assignments Unit (SAU). SAU negotiators arrived on scene and took over negotiations with Steinbach for several hours.
At around 3:47 p.m., Steinbach left his apartment with a gun in his hand. SAU gave commands to the man to drop the gun, but he did not. This is when the officer involved shooting occurred. SAU immediately began to provide first aid, took Steinbach to a waiting ambulance, and he was transported to the hospital. Once at the hospital, he did not survive his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety’s Major Incident Division is investigating the shooting.
