Phoenix Police detectives are investigating an officer-involved shooting.
On December 27, 2025, at around 11:34 p.m., officers responded to the area of 28th Drive and Larkspur Drive for an unrelated call. As the officers were concluding their call, an adult male began yelling at them. As the officers returned to their vehicles, the man confronted the officers armed with a handgun, this is when the officer involved shooting occurred.
Investigators have now determined, the man stood behind a block wall, raised a handgun over the fence and fired one time at officers.
After being shot, the man fled north on 28th Drive a short distance before falling to the ground from his injury. Officers gave commands to the man and approached him, taking him into custody. Officers immediately began rendering lifesaving aid.
The Phoenix Fire Department arrived on the scene and transported the man to a nearby hospital, where he was rushed into surgery and is being treated for a non-life-threatening injury.
This investigation is being conducted by the Arizona Department of Public Safety’s Major Incident Division.
