The victim killed by a careening truck in a south Phoenix park has been identified as 51-year-old Melissa Pennington.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, on April 8th, 2026, at approximately 7:48 a.m., officers responded to the area of 35th Avenue and Baseline Road for a reported collision. Upon arrival, officers located Melissa with serious injuries. She was transported by Phoenix Fire Personnel to a local hospital where she later died. The driver of the truck involved remained on scene and was also transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Detectives believe that the driver lost control of the truck, causing it to leave the roadway and strike a tree. The truck then rolled over and hit Melissa in the park. The driver was evaluated for impairment and showed no signs of being impaired. Speed may be a contributing factor.
