In response to Arizona State Senator Carine Werner sounding the alarm on new whistleblower evidence alleging continued Medicaid fraud, Attorney General Kris Mayes lost her cool and called Werner “a liar, and she is a dumb one at that.”
We shall see. Werner will hold a press conference on Monday, May 18, to answer reporters’ questions and discuss needed reforms.
Werner claims whistleblowers have come forward this month with detailed records and firsthand accounts of serious AHCCCS rule violations and state law breaches.
Werner turned the evidence over to the Arizona Attorney General’s Office and demanded a full investigation.
Now, she escalated the matter in a formal letter to U.S. Attorney Timothy Courchaine seeking federal criminal charges, civil enforcement, and asset forfeiture.
