Pedestrian In Crosswalk Killed In Phoenix Hit-And-Run

A woman walking within a crosswalk was struck and killed in a hit-and-run in Phoenix on Sunday.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, at around 10:36 p.m., officers responded to the area of 27th Avenue and Michigan Avenue regarding an injured person. When officers arrived, they located an adult female, later identified as 39-year-old Erika Monique Garcia, unresponsive.

The Phoenix Fire Department arrived on the scene and transported Garcia to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.

Detectives discovered that a witness observed Garcia lying or bent over in the roadway within a marked crosswalk. The witness returned and observed Garcia still in the roadway; however, it appeared Garcia had been struck by a vehicle. The driver of the involved vehicle did not remain at the scene.
