18-year-old Dyllin Keys has been sentenced to five years in prison for robbing a 12-year-old boy at gunpoint.
Keys pleaded guilty to Armed Robbery, a Class Two Felony.
According to Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, on February 6, the victim was riding his e-bike on the trail near Greenfield Junior High when Keys and a 14-year-old boy approached him. Keys pointed a gun at the victim and told him to hand over the e-bike and not call the police, or he would shoot him. The victim complied and called 911 after the robbers left.
A Gilbert Police Officer responded quickly and found Keys nearby riding the victim’s e-bike. The other juvenile involved in the robbery was tracked down by police and arrested days later.
“No child should ever have to stare down the barrel of a gun and have to call 911 in tears over being robbed,” said Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell. “The fear in the victim’s voice was heartbreaking, but he showed tremendous courage by calling 911. Because of his bravery and the swift response by Gilbert Police, this defendant was caught within minutes. Today’s sentence sends a clear message that anyone who tries to terrorize a kid in Maricopa County will pay for their crime.”
