PHOENIX – Republican candidate for Arizona Attorney General Warren Petersen and his supporters are questioning why his campaign’s extensive backing from law enforcement organizations and leaders has received little media attention.

Over the past year, Petersen has secured endorsements from major Arizona law enforcement organizations, sheriffs, county attorneys, and attorneys general from across the country.

According to his campaign, Petersen is the first challenger to a sitting Arizona Attorney General to receive endorsements from the state’s six largest police organizations in the same election cycle.

Organizations endorsing Petersen include:

  • Arizona Police Association
  • Arizona Fraternal Order of Police
  • Arizona State Troopers Association
  • Arizona Conference of Police & Sheriffs
  • Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Arizona
  • Maricopa County Colleges Police Officers Association
  • Phoenix Police Sergeants and Lieutenants Association

“Law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every single day to protect our families, neighborhoods, and communities, and they deserve an Attorney General who will always have their backs,” said Petersen. “I am deeply honored to have earned the trust and support of the men and women who know firsthand what it takes to keep Arizona safe. Their endorsement sends an unmistakable message: It is time to restore integrity to the Attorney General’s Office, take politics out of law enforcement, and put the safety of Arizonans first.”

The endorsements represent organizations whose membership includes thousands of Arizona law enforcement professionals, along with sheriffs and prosecutors who work directly with the Attorney General’s Office on public safety matters.

Petersen’s campaign argues that the breadth of law enforcement support deserves greater public attention, particularly in a race against incumbent Democrat Attorney General Kris Mayes.

Petersen maintains that the endorsements highlight differences between the candidates over law enforcement priorities, public safety, and the role of the Attorney General’s Office.

His campaign has also criticized Mayes over controversies surrounding her administration and what Petersen describes as the politicization of the office.

Despite the number of organizations and law enforcement leaders backing Petersen, his supporters contend that the endorsements have received far less media coverage than their significance warrants.
