This week, a mother April Escobedo (April Grijalva) and her two daughters Cassandra and Rachel Grijalva were arrested by IRS agents after being indicted for Conspiracy to Defraud the Government.

Escobedo was arrested in Las Vegas. Both Cassandra and Rachel Grijalva were arrested in Tucson.

The three women are accused of participating in a scheme to obtain the payment of false tax refunds from the Internal Revenue Service through the preparation and filing of false federal individual income tax returns that contained false tax refund claims. Escobedo was also charged with Wire Fraud and Aggravated Identity Theft.

• Escobedo lived in Las Vegas, Nevada
• Rachel Grijalva lived in Mesa, Arizona and Las Vegas, Nevada
• Cassandra Grijalva lived in Tucson, Arizona

According to the indictment, the scheme to defraud resulted in approximately 265 false claims for tax refunds in the total amount of approximately $472,351.00 with false tax refunds issued in the total amount of approximately $255,189.52.

A jury trial has been set for November 18, 2014.
