Arizona Legislative’s Leaders Force Closure Of Capitol For COVID-19 As Members Fight To Decertify Election

PHOENIX — Despite the fact that there is no evidence that members of the Arizona Legislature came into contact with Rudy Giuliani , who was just diagnosed with COVID-19, Senate President Karen Fann and House Speaker Rusty Bowers have shut down the chambers for the week.

Giuliani, personal attorney to President Donald Trump, announced the diagnosis on Sunday. Giuliani and other members of the legal team held a forum on December 1 in Phoenix with legislators to reveal what they believe is evidence of election fraud and other irregularities.

The forum was held against the wishes of Fann and Bowers, and many believe the decision to shut down the chambers this week is retaliatory and part of an ongoing effort to block lawmakers who hope to decertify Arizona’s election results.

Michael Hunter, the Speaker’s Chief of Staff, announced the chambers will be closed starting Monday, December 7. According to Hunter, no one will have permission to work or meet in the building and all staff will perform all work and schedule meetings remotely.

Coincidently, legislators announced that they had planned to hold a press conference at the courtyard of the State Capitol to discuss “the urgent need to decertify the results of the 2020 election.”

“The election should not have been certified with the number of irregularities and allegations of fraud. Especially troubling to me are the allegations surrounding the vendor Dominion. It is imperative that a forensic audit occur immediately of the equipment and software. Upon any showing of fraud the legislature should immediately convene to decertify the vote,” said House Majority Leader Warren Petersen.

“In the past week seemingly conclusive evidence has come to light through successful litigation that the outcome of the 2020 election is far from certain, and at the very least, further investigation is necessary to ensure the integrity of Arizona’s election results. It is imperative that Secretary of State Hobbs rescind her certification of the election until these matters have made their way through the court and voter confidence is restored,” said Representative Walter Blackman.

“Ensuring the integrity of Arizona’s 2020 election isn’t just a matter of sound public policy, it is a civil rights imperative. There are few elements of our society more foundational than the right to free and fair elections and when that right is called into question it is our responsibility as leaders to ensure that confidence in the electoral process is restored. To this end, Arizona must decertify the 2020 election so that the numerous election irregularities may be properly adjudicated and the people of our great state may once again have faith in their right to vote,” stated Representative-Elect Jake Hoffman.

“Out of an abundance of caution, it is clear that we must perform a full forensic audit.  Whether the Legislature is open or closed, we will forge ahead and press for answers.  I am astonished, however, at the lengths others are going to in an apparent attempt to prevent that. Their efforts to stop the transparency only further my suspicion that there is indeed something to hide,” stated Representative Kelly Townsend.

The lawmakers have no intention of changing their plans and they appear to have support.
