The Phoenix Police Department has released a video showing the moments before an officer involved shooting which took the life of ex-NFL defensive lineman Ekom Udofia. An officer can be heard begging the gun wielding Udofia, “Please don’t make me shoot you.”

The incident occurred in the early morning hours of November 30, 2020 in the area 2300 West Indian School Road.

Police officers responded to a report of a man, Udofia, acting strange and appeared to be jumping onto vehicles as they were driving near Indian School Road and 23rd Avenue. The caller told 911 that he had seen the man earlier in the night and that he appeared normal but when he saw him again, he appeared to be under the influence of drugs.

Two officers arrived within minutes of the call and saw Udofia walking in the middle of the roadway. Both officers exited their vehicle and immediately noticed he was armed with a gun. The gun was later discovered to be a BB-gun.

Udofia reportedly walked toward the officers, ignoring their pleas to drop the gun.

The 33-year-old Udofia was transported to the hospital where he died.
