Previously deported child sex offenders apprehended by Border Patrol agents

TUCSON –  Border Patrol agents apprehended two previously deported men Sunday with sex offender histories after they entered the U.S. illegally.

Santos Avila Rosales, a 35-year-old Honduran national, was arrested by Three Points Station agents  Sunday morning west of Sasabe,  said a release by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Agents discovered that Avila Rosales was convicted of child molestation in the state of Louisiana in 2011.

Later that day, Casa Grande Station agents arrested a Mexican national, 46-year-old Arturo Benjamin Avila Torres, a two-time California felon, convicted of assault with a firearm in 1993 and for lascivious acts with a minor under 14 in 1998.  Avila Torres illegally entered the country south of Vamori.

Both previously deported convicted felons will remain in federal custody to face felony immigration prosecution.
