Near Drowning Sends Tucson 20 Month-Old To Hospital

Tucson Fire Department units were dispatched to a near drowning in the 8000 block of South Nautilus for a 20 month-old male just before 7:00 Monday evening. A call was made from the home to 911 reporting the near drowning as the baby was found in the pool.

Authorities do not know how long the baby was in the water. As Tucson Fire Department (TFD) personnel arrived on scene, the baby vomited. Firefighters quickly administered high flow oxygen and assessed the baby. The baby was crying and responsive. Paramedics arrived on scene and transported the baby to a local hospital, continuing medical assessment and care en route.

The baby’s condition did appear to improve but being under water for any amount of time can have damaging effects. TPD was following up to determine how the baby got into the pool but initial information was that there was no fence around the pool.

August is Drowning Impact Awareness Month and TFD advises that knowing the ABC’s of drowning prevention can save the life of your child.
