Yuma Sheriff Warns Of Phone Refund Scam

The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office as issued a warning about a new scam involving a fake telephone purchase refund.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the caller states that he is a representative from Amazon and that he is calling to notify the potential victim of a recent phone they might have purchased. When the potential victim advises the representative that they did not make the purchase, the scammer instructs the potential victim to download an app on their phone or a program on their computer for a refund.

The scammer then asks the potential victim to log into their bank account. Once the victim is logged into their account, the scammer take controls of the computer and withdraws money.
