Pima County settles in Elias aide harassment case

A high school intern who said she was physically assaulted by an aide to Pima County Supervisor Richard Elias will be paid $10,000 by the county, according to a report by the Associated Press. The intern was working for Supervisor Ray Carroll and claimed that Supervisor Richard Elias’s aide Manuel Ruiz grabbed her from behind and refused to let her go despite her pleas.

The intern through her lawyer, Richard Martinez, filed a claim against the County year ago.

Carroll applauded the settlement saying that the County would have lost in a court battle. The AP reports that the intern characterized the 2006 incident as “unwelcome, offensive and undeniably sexual.”
