Putin Saves Obama (and McCain)

It is no secret that both Obama and McCain are hell bent on getting us into a war in Syria. This is an intervention that is clearly NOT in the best interest of the United States. Both parties are avowed enemies of the U. S. Helping one side over the other is total insanity. The best course of action is to leave them alone to kill each other. However, that does not stop Obama who was a confirmed dove until he became president and now needs a distraction from his disastrous policies. It does not stop McCain either, who has never met a war he did not like.

However, the citizens of this country and by extension, our legislators, have shown an unusual degree of wisdom by rebuking this Obama/McCain scheme. This is the first time in recent history that an American president is denied support for going to war. Here is a summary of recent requests, including the reason given for going to war:

  • McKinley – Spanish American War – Approved – USS Maine
  • Wilson – World War I – Approved – German Attack
  • Roosevelt – World War II – Approved – Japanese Attack
  • Truman – Korea – Wide Support – Chinese backed invasion
  • Johnson – Viet Nam – Approved – Questionable Tonkin Gulf
  • Bush 1 – Iraq – Approved – Kuwait Liberation
  • Bush 2 – Afghanistan – Approved – 911
  • Bush 2 – Iraq – Approved – Questionable WMD use
  • Obama – Syria – Rejected – Questionable WMD use
  • Obama may still go to war in Syria regardless. He has shown an absolute lack of respect for congress and the constitution. In fact, both Obama and McCain are still saber rattling and claiming that the Putin proposal does not go far enough. This may be true enough, plus there is no guarantee that Assad will follow through on any agreement, a la Saddam. But that does not mean that Obama and McCain will get grass root support for intervention.

The underlying objection from the point of view of the U. S. citizenry is that we do not care. Regardless of whoever we support in that conflict, we will be supporting an enemy of the United States.

Instead of criticizing Putin, both Obama and McCain should be thanking him for helping them avoid the embarrassment of failing to muster congressional support for a war, for the first time in history.
