Maricopa County elections leave Peoria candidate off ballot TWICE

kriegerIn Pima County they are corrupt, but in Maricopa County they are simply inept. Maricopa County Elections Director Karen Osborne has announced that she inadvertently left Peoria City Council candidate Ken Krieger off the early voter ballots for Peoria’s upcoming election, AGAIN.

Osborne “lost track of Krieger’s status as a candidate during an avalanche of 41 lawsuits challenging nomination petitions this year, which is about double the norm,” according to the Yellow Sheet. So, she sent out 8,500 new ballots, at an estimated cost to the taxpayer of $15,000. She did it in record time.

But she did it wrong again. Now, she says it was the printer that got it wrong. The second time.

And it really doesn’t matter who got it wrong, the voters are being robbed of a chance to vote for their guy.

Osborne says that she normally removes candidates’ names from the ballot when their nomination is challenged, and only replaces them if they survive the challenge. After Krieger successfully won a challenge to his candidacy, she failed to put his name back on the ballot.

Given the unlikelihood of losing a challenge – Maricopa’s method is madness.

Krieger is a fiscally conservative retired Chiropractor, who has received the endorsement of popular Phoenix city councilman, Sal DiCiccio.

The probability is high that Krieger will sue the department.

Today, the Peoria City Council will hold a special emergency meeting at 11 a.m. to discuss what to do next. According to ABC15, Maricopa County has reportedly provided the council with several options, including moving the city election to the November general ballot.
