Rogers, Gallego take Arizona congressional primaries

capitolLt Col (ret) Wendy Rogers was victorious in Tuesday’s Republican primary election in Arizona’s 9th District. Rogers will now face incumbent, Democrat Kyrsten Sinema.

“I want to thank our voters for their support. It is a real honor to be chosen as the Republican nominee, and I look forward to the opportunity to fight for the leadership of our district. In Congress, we need someone who will fight for Arizona and work hard to improve our quality of life, not be a cheerleader for the Obama administration’s failed policies as Kyrsten Sinema has been,” said Rogers.

“Kyrsten Sinema and I have very different visions for America. Congresswoman Sinema has stood behind the Obama agenda 100%, even going so far as to vote against a budget which would have balanced our nation’s checkbook within a decade, because doing so would have gotten rid of Obamacare and taken money away from President Obama’s liberal policy priorities,” continued Rogers. “I believe in telling it like it is, and I will not hesitate to say that President Obama has done a bad job. We don’t need more people in Congress cheering him on. Since President Obama took office, an Arizonan’s median income has dropped. Jobs have vanished. There are now more than 213,000 Arizonans out of a job. Healthcare has gotten more expensive. Our choices are becoming more limited due to Obamacare.”

The few contested congressional primaries held in Arizona this season has left the Republican Party with battle wounds. The grassroots were stomped on by the establishment which poured money into the CD2 race for two time loser Martha McSally. She will now face popular Congressman Ron Barber, who she lost to two years ago. Political newcomer Chuck Wooten, who entered the race late was fought every step of the way by the establishment. The establishment went to great lengths to secure McSally’s win and the Party’s now-certain loss in the General Election.

Businessman Gary Kiehne appears to have won the nomination for CD1. The bumbling newcomer used most of his own money to defeat Arizona Speaker of the House Andy Tobin, and State Representative Adam Kwasman. The establishment took great pains to crush Kwasman, who bucked the McCain good ol’ boys by refusing to wait his turn to run for office. Tobin, who does not live in the district, appeared to use his State office to promote his congressional campaign.

Arizona State Rep. Ruben Gallego beat out former Maricopa County Supervisor Mary Rose Wilcox for the Democrat Party’s nominee in CD7. Gallego, a young veteran known around the Capitol as the “Troll” because of his small husky stature, surprised nearly everyone with his solid victory over Wilcox.
