Haver intent upon bringing fiscal responsibility to MCCCD

By Johanna Haver

The Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) has served the Valley well – certainly since I moved here in 1972. My daughter and hundreds of my former students, many classified in high school as “English language learners,” attended Phoenix College. Since that time, my daughter and several of those students have continued their education and become successful in careers of their choice. Moreover, through the years, I have enjoyed studying world languages and developing my artistic ability at four of the MCCCD campuses.

mcccdPresently, the Maricopa college district has some serious problems regarding – not only the recent security breach fiasco – but also its faculty/fiscal policies and procedures in general. For that reason, I have decided to offer my experiences and knowledge, gained as an educator, researcher and longtime resident of Phoenix, to the MCCCD Board.

In addition, I have joined with two other MCCCD candidates who like me are intent upon bringing fiscal responsibility to the Board. They are MCCCD at-large candidate John Heep and District 4 candidate Jean McGrath. Please visit our joint website at www.lowertuitionnow.com for more details.

It is our belief that, before approving a proposal, the Board must ascertain that the measure will affect instruction in a positive way and, at the same time, be affordable to the community. Whereas it is sometimes a challenge to match quality with frugality, the MCCCD can and must do exactly that to maintain its reputation as well as its popularity in the Valley and throughout the country.

I would appreciate your vote.
