Between November 12 and November 25, Border Patrol agents arrested three sex offenders, two MS-13 gang members, one Surenos 13 gang member, and one U.S. citizen convicted of various serious crimes.
On Nov. 20, Cary Douglas Rininger, a U.S. citizen, fled the SR 80 checkpoint after being referred to secondary inspection. He evaded agents at a high rate of speed until an air unit spotted him in Benson, Arizona as he crashed through a fence and ran from the vehicle. Agents pursued on foot, resulting in his arrest and confiscation of 198 pounds of marijuana, valued at $99,000, from the trunk of the rental vehicle. Record checks revealed Rininger had a warrant for his arrest and an extensive criminal history with more than 16 felony convictions, including assault on an officer, resisting arrest, grand theft and burglary.
On Nov. 13 and 25, record checks on a Honduran and two Mexican men after their arrest for immigration violations revealed previous convictions for sex-related crimes including rape and aggravated sexual assault.
Three additional subjects also arrested within the past two weeks were identified as members of the notorious MS-13 and Florencia/Surenos 13 gangs.
All subjects were processed for prosecution and/or removal proceedings in accordance with Tucson Sector prosecution guidelines.
