Cortez Resigns From PCC Board

Pima Community College Governing Board member Marty Cortez announced her resignation. The College released a statment citing personal reasons for the resignation.

First elected in 1994, Cortez served three complete terms on the PCC Board before being re-elected to her most recent term beginning in 2013. Her current term was to expire December 31, 2018.

During her tenure, the College was shrouded in various scandals.

Cortez is a retired school principal who worked for Tucson Unified, Nogales (Arizona), Amphitheater, and Sunnyside school districts and was a former advisor for Northern Arizona University academic programs. In addition to boards of numerous civic organizations, she is a past president of the University of Arizona Hispanic Alumni Club and still serves on the Board as the coordinator of the University of Arizona Hispanic Alumni Scholarship Students Leadership and Retention Program.

“We are grateful for Marty’s long years of service, and her remarkable commitment to Pima Community College,” said PCC Chancellor Lee D. Lambert.

Arizona law requires the appointment of a successor be made by Dr. Linda Arzoumanian, the Pima County Superintendent of Schools. As a result, the selection process will be secretive and will serve special interests in the community.

Information on the replacement process can be found on the Superintendent of Schools website or by calling 520-724-8451.
