Nogales CBP Officers Seize $295K in Hard Drugs

Customs and Border Protection officers arrested a Mexican man Saturday (July 25) for an alleged attempt to smuggle nearly 24 pounds of heroin and cocaine through the Port of Nogales.

Officers at the Dennis DeConcini crossing referred Gilverto Floriano-Cuamba, 24, of Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, for a secondary inspection of his Chevrolet truck after a CBP narcotics-detection canine alerted to the vehicle. During the inspection, officers located nearly 12 pounds of cocaine, worth in excess of $122,000, and more than 12 pounds of heroin worth almost $173,000.

Officers seized the drugs and vehicle, and turned Floriano over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
