Durkin PCC BOG Quest Is Questionable

As if she didn’t do enough damage to the educational prospects of Tucson’s students, when she served as the attorney for the Tucson Unified School District, now Martha Durkin, Tucson’s deputy city manager and a former deputy city attorney has joined 6 other candidates vying for the seat vacated by Marty Cortez on the Pima Community College Board of Governors.

The addition of Durkin to the mix certainly raised eyebrows and questions. During her term at Tucson’s largest school district, Durkin had little regard for the Governing Board members.

Durkin is up against authentic education advocates including former state Senator Luis Gonzales, community activist Cecilia Cruz, and Francis Saitta, a former adjunct instructor in math and biology at Pima, and instructor at TUSD.

Pima County School Superintendent Linda Arzoumanian is known for her secretive selection process.
