100 Year Old Vet Presented With New Purple Heart

On Monday, Rep. Martha McSally presented a Purple Heart medal to 100 year-old World War II veteran Roy Beebe after his previous medal had been stolen. Mr. Beebe was wounded in Italy in 1944 while under a mortar attack.

A Tucson television station, KGUN, contacted McSally about Mr. Beebe’s lost medal.

According to a statement released by McSally, caseworkers in her office went to work locating Mr. Beebe’s records. Mr. Beebe
‘s records were likely lost in the 1973 fire that destroyed approximately 16-18 million Official Military Personnel Files. According to McSally, her staff worked with representatives from the National Personnel Records Center, the Army, and Mr. Beebe’s family to locate additional service records needed to procure a new medal.

Roy Beebe served in the Army from November 17, 1942 to April 2, 1944 during World War II in the 361st Infantry Regiment. His service took him to the North Apennines, Po Valley, Rome, and Arno.
