Trump, the Broker

Who is Donald Trump? Is he a great businessman? Or is he a mole for the Democrats? George Will maintains that Trump’s campaign for president would be no different if he were a Democrat mole sent to undermine the GOP.

It is no secret that Trump has liberally donated to leftist candidates like Hillary Clinton. Between 1989 and 2010, Trump donated $314,300 to Democratic groups and candidates and $290,600 to Republicans. Recipients of Trump’s money include former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, former Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

Trump also has been chummy with organized crime figures. This fact, apparently, is why Trump did not run for president in 2012. Investigative journalist Wayne Barrett stated, in a CNN interview, “The mob connections of Donald are extraordinarily extensive.” In a Federalist article, How Close Was Donald Trump to the Mob, David Marcus wrote:

“The Atlantic City story starts with Trump’s purchase of a [property], at twice its market value, from Salvatore Testa, a made man in the Philadelphia mafia and son of Philip “Chicken Man” Testa, who was briefly head of the Philly mob after Angelo Bruno’s 1980 killing. Harrah’s casino, half owned by Trump, would be built on that land, and Trump would quickly buy out his partner, Harrah’s Entertainment, and rename the casino Trump Plaza.

Trump Plaza’s connection to the mob didn’t end with the land purchase from Testa. Nicademo “Little Nicky” Scarfo (who became boss after the elder Testa was blown up) and his nephew Phillip “crazy Phil” Leonetti controlled two of the major construction and concrete companies in Atlantic City. Both companies, Scarf, Inc. and Nat Nat, did work on the construction of Harrah’s, according the State of New Jersey Commission of Investigation’s 1986 report on organized crime. In addition, Scarfo, whose reign as head of the Philly mob was one of the bloodiest in history, controlled the bartenders union, which represented Trump’s workers in Atlantic City, according to George Anastasia’s book, ‘Blood and Honor.’”

Trump’s long-time close relationships with organized crime figures and Democrats are not by chance. Organized crime and Democrats have also had a special relationship. Organized crime controlled and, in most instances, still influences unions that typically vote Democrat. The Mafia was very good at intimidation and bribery. The Mafia was so successful at it that the Democratic Party began using these tactics.

Notice, too, that Donald Trump, a life-long liberal, or should I use the term “illiberal,” wins through intimidation. In 2009, former Colombo crime family capa Michael Franzese compared the Democrat Party to a Mafia family. So, it is not surprising that Democrats run the highest crime cities in America.

All of which takes us back to the original question: who is Donald Tramp? He is a terrible businessman but a “marketeer” par excellence. He’s running for president not to be president but to broker the presidency. Trump knows his background will be exposed if the mass media reports objectively.

So, at some point, Trump will either throw his support to an obvious candidate that will be beholding to Trump, or Trump will default to a third party candidate, and offer his support to the remaining competing presidential candidates. This the true leverage that Trump says he’s protecting.

It has been reported that Trump has used very little of his own money so far. He has refused to let his very small staff tap Trump’s rich friends. Trump has refused to do any advertising. More importantly, Trump has refused to build primary ballot staffs in critical states, which takes a considerable investment. He is neither spending nor building as if he is serious about being a contender for president.

One other Trump trait leads to this conclusion. Trump is a control freak. He will never be able to place his business empire in trust and lose control of it. Not one of his three children is ready to manage this vast empire as evidenced by Trump hiring his first CEO of the Trump hotel group. The last thing Trump wants to lose is his empire. If he retains his empire and brokers a deal for the presidency, he will only gain in power.

Too bad Trump is so lacking in grace, class, humility and credibility.
