Pima County Deputies Rescue Dog In Scorching Heat

On Monday, Pima County Rincon deputies, along with Southern Arizona Rescue Association, responded to Tanque Verde Falls in Redington Pass to help a dog in distress, according to the Sheriff’s Department. A 9-1-1 call was received saying that there was a dog who could not stand on his own.

The temperature outside was a scorching 100 degrees.

The Department reports that the dog and his owner were located at the bottom of Tanque Verde Falls. The lethargic dog, Ranger, had bloody paws, couldn’t stand or walk, and had to be carried out via a Stokes basket.

The owner, 21-year-old Cory Muckle was charged with felony Animal Cruelty. Ranger was turned over to Pima Animal Care.

The Department is reminding pet owners that animals are susceptible to the extreme heat in Pima County. Precautions must be taken if you are going to leave your pets outside or take them with you while doing outdoor activities.

According to the Sheriff’s Departent they received this call just after 5 p.m. and didn’t finish until around 10:30 p.m. due to the treacherous terrain. Volunteers and deputies carried Ranger in the Stokes basket over large boulders, through waist-deep water, and around venomous creatures to get him to safety.
