Oro Valley Residents Ready For Recall

Oro Valley residents have successfully recruited new representatives to face Mayor Satish Hiremath, Vice-Mayor Lou Waters, and Council members Joe Hornat and Mary Snider in the upcoming Recall Election this November.

Earlier this week, Steve Didio turned in his nominating petitions for the Recall Election Ballot. Didio turned in 827 signatures. He only needed a total of 526 signatures.

A day later, Pat Straney, who is challenging Hiremath, turned in his mayoral nominating petitions. In just three weeks, Straney collected 491 signatures. Straney only needed 221 signatures. Joe Winfield, who is on Parks and Recreation Commission, is in the process of collecting signatures for a mayoral run as well.

On Thursday, Shirl Lamonna turned in a total of 833 signatures and Ryan Hartung turned in 793 signatures.

Supporters created a website: Accountable Government Now.

The last day to register to vote or make a change of address is October 5.

Early ballots will be mailed on October 8, 2015.

According to the popular Oro Valley community website, Let Oro Valley Excel, “Mayor Hiremath and council members Hornat, Snider and Waters disregarded substantial resident input against the (El Conquistador Hotel) deal or the caution that further study and public vetting be done.”
