Cochise Sheriff’s Employee Credited With Third Life Save

Since the mandatory first aid/CPR training for the Sheriff’s Office in August of 2014, Sheriff’s Office personnel have been able to provide life saving assistance to three people.

The latest heroic save was the result of a medical call on Thursday October 8, 2015 at approximately 9:30 am, regarding a 10 month old baby who was unresponsive and not breathing on McNeal Street in Elfrida. Medical personnel were dispatched along with Elfrida Deputies, and Deputy Daniel E. Romero was approximately one block away when the call was given out.

Deputy Romero responded and once at the residence a woman and her teenage daughter ran out and advised that the baby girl was not breathing. Deputy Romero then went inside of the home and located the child, noticing that she had a pulse but her breathing had stopped. After this assessment, Deputy Romero began CPR on the child and she started responding but would relapse several more times before medical personnel arrived on scene. Deputy Romero continued to provide CPR until the medics were there and able to take over treatment.

The child was transported to a local hospital where she was assessed and flown to a Tucson hospital for further care. The child is responding at this time and remains in the intensive care unit until further notice.
