On August 12 at 2:20 p.m., Pinal County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence at 24 E. Paso Fino Way, in San Tan Valley, for a report that a 6-month-old infant that was not breathing.
Sheriff Paul Babeu said, “When the deputies arrived on scene, they found a caregiver performing CPR. When the deputies took over CPR, they found that the baby was cold to the touch and obviously deceased. The caregiver reported she found the boy in a crib in an upstairs bedroom about 90 minutes after putting him in the crib for a nap. The victim had no obvious signs of trauma and the medical examiner’s office will be conducting an investigation as to the cause and manner of death.”
The deputies at the scene spoke to the 62-year-old female caregiver, who said she was running a day care business out of her home. She said that she put the baby in a crib to nap and checked on him about 90 minutes later, discovering him not breathing. She did not report any medical concerns prior to putting the baby in the crib. Deputies noted the home appeared to be under renovation with exposed wood, nails and dirty floors throughout.
