Maricopa County Detectives Seize Neglected Dogs In Queen Creek

On Wednesday, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Animal Crimes detectives served a search warrant on an elderly couple in Queen Creek AZ. 66-year old Kathleen Marshall and 63-year old Kevin Marshall had over a dozen dogs living in their home at 20827 E Pickett St, Queen Creek, Az.

On January 8, 2016 deputies were dispatched for a welfare check at their home after they were notified by the AZ Shih-tzu rescue of multiple dogs at 20827 E Pickett St, needed to be rescued.

Deputies responded and observed the dogs in cages living in feces and urine. They placed the couple on notice, giving them an opportunity to clean up the residence and improve the conditions for the animals and for the people living in the home.

On January 17, MCSO deputies followed up and discovered the condition had not changed. A search warrant was then drafted and on January 18, 15 dogs were seized and taken to Palm Glen Animal Hospital for evaluation and care. The dogs appeared to be malnourished and most needed immediate care. They are expected to be transported to MCSO’s MASH unit after being treated.

Ms. Marshall was the only one home when the search warrant was served because her husband has been hospitalized. The case was referred to Adult Protective Services (APS) who already have an open case on the couple.

Charges are pending the results from the veterinary assessment
