Tucson, Scottsdale Jewish Community Centers Receive Bomb Threats

On Monday, the Scottsdale and Tucson Jewish community centers were among centers across the country that received bomb threats.

The Tucson Jewish Community Center (JCC) received a bomb threat phone call at approximately 6:00 p.m. The JCC will reopen Tuesday at 5:30 a.m.

The building was evacuated and inspected by local enforcement agencies, including a bomb squad.

The Valley of the Sun Jewish Community Center in Scottsdale received a vague threat at approximately 5:20 p.m, according to the Scottsdale Police Department.

After police searched the premises, the building reopened at 7 p.m.

According to Jewishaz.com, “At least 23 Jewish community centers and Jewish day schools across the country received bomb threats” on Monday. “Other affected JCCs included those in Asheville, North Carolina, and Davie, Florida, both of which were evacuated to local churches, as well as JCCs in York and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; Indianapolis; Tarrytown and Staten Island, New York; Cherry Hill, New Jersey; Birmingham, Alabama; and Wilmington, Delaware. Jewish day schools in Rockville, Maryland; Fairfax, Virginia; and Davie, outside Miami, were also evacuated after receiving bomb threats. Institutions in Michigan and Rhode Island were also targeted.”
