On March 19, 2017, just before 3:30 a.m., Tucson Police officers and members from the Tucson Fire Department responded to a report of a serious injury motorcycle collision in front of 613 E. Delano Street. Upon arrival, Tucson Fire immediately transported the victim, 63-year-old Andrew Cassells, to Banner University Medical Center with life threatening injuries. No other vehicles were involved in the collision.

Detectives were able to determine that the victim was traveling southbound on N. 1st Avenue on a yellow 2001 BMW Motorcycle. As the victim approached East Delano Street, he began to drift to the west and entered into a parking lot where he struck a business sign in front of 613 E. Delano Street. The victim was not wearing a helmet.

A DUI investigation was conducted and alcohol appears to be a factor in the collision. Speed does not appear to be a contributing factor.

On March 22, 2017, Mr. Cassells succumbed to injuries sustained during the collision and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
