Tucson Police Investigating Fatal 6th Avenue Pedestrian Hit and Run

On April 8, 2017 at approximately 7:30 p.m., Tucson Police officers and members from the Tucson Fire Department responded to the area of South 6th Avenue and West Ohio Street for a report of a serious vehicle collision involving a pedestrian. Upon arrival, Tucson Fire immediately transported the adult male pedestrian to Banner University Medical Center with life threatening injuries.

Shortly after arrival at the hospital, the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. The pedestrian’s name is currently being withheld pending next of kin notification.

Detectives were able to determine that the pedestrian was walking eastbound across 6th avenue, just north of Ohio Street. While he was attempting to cross, he was struck by a blue 2003 Acura that was traveling northbound in the curb lane. The pedestrian was not in a crosswalk at the time of the collision. The driver of the Acura pulled over to render aid, but before he was able to assist, the pedestrian was struck by a second vehicle that did not remain on scene. The second vehicle was described as an unknown white sedan.

Police say that neither speed nor impairments appear to be factors in the initial collision and no arrests or citations were issued.

Anyone with information about the collision is encouraged to call 88-CRIME. You can remain anonymous.
