On April 20, 2017, shortly before 8:00 a.m., Tucson Police officers and members from the Tucson Fire Department responded to a report of a single vehicle collision into a pole. Upon arrival, they located an adult male inside the vehicle.

The Tucson Fire Department worked for roughly one hour to extricate the driver from the vehicle. Once removed, the male was transported to Banner University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. On Wednesday, the Tucson Police Department was notified the male succumbed to injures on April 25, 2017 and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Detectives from the Tucson Police Department Traffic Investigations Unit responded to the scene to continue the investigation. They were able to determine that the male was driving a white 2003 Chevrolet utility truck westbound on 22nd St. in the curb lane. As he was approaching S. Lakeshore Ln., he drifted to the northern sidewalk area.

He continued to drive on the sidewalk and over vegetation before striking a utility pole. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in this collision. The investigation is ongoing to determine if the driver was wearing his seatbelt.

The driver has been identified as 31-year-old Gregory Ramirez. Next of kin has been notified.
